Utility Model
A Utility Model protects inventions on a lower inventive scale than those protected by a patent. They may involve giving an object a configuration or structure that makes it useful in practice or adds a practical advantage to it.
The device, instrument or tool protected by the utility model is characterised for its “usefulness” and its “practicality”, rather than for its “aesthetic appearance”, as is the case of industrial designs.
The scope of the protection offered by a utility model is similar to that of a patent.
