PCT Patent
A PCT patent is the most effective instrument of international protection of an invention. PCT stands for “Patent Cooperation Treaty”. Although a PCT patent is a global patent, it does not cover all the countries in the world, but only those countries elected by the applicant from amongst the signatories of the treaty.
A PCT patent may be applied for directly or added onto a prior filing of a Spanish patente or a utility model. In the latter case, the wish or not for global registration will have to be decided within a 12-month period as from its registration date in Spain.
The PCT affords protection of your invention in countries with very attractive markets, such as the United States or Japan, besides allowing you to access the so-called “regional” registrations, including the European Patent , clearly the most suitable from our standpoint.
